Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign® orthodontic treatment?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment process that involves wearing a series of clear, plastic aligners that fit snugly over the surface of your teeth. Over time, the aligners gradually straighten your teeth, but without any metal wires, brackets, or rubber bands.

Invisalign aligners are made of an FDA-approved thermoplastic known as SmartTrack®. SmartTrack is virtually invisible and it’s free of allergens, including BPS, BPA, latex, and gluten.

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?

The only way to know if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign is to schedule an appointment with Dr. Vu at Toothscaler Dental. Following an oral exam, review of your medical history, and discussion of your aesthetic goals, Dr. Vu can determine if you’ll benefit from Invisalign or another type of orthodontic treatment.

Dr. Vu typically recommends Invisalign for patients who are 14 and older. Younger children usually aren’t mature enough to properly clean and care for their aligners.

What types of issues can Invisalign correct?

Invisalign treatment is incredibly versatile and can correct a wide variety of oral imperfections including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overbite
  • Crossbite
  • Underbite
  • Crowded teeth

Invisalign oral aligners can also correct gaps or spaces between your teeth.

What is the process for getting Invisalign aligners?

If Dr. Vu determines that you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, he develops a unique digital treatment plan that maps out the exact movements of your teeth. Every two to three weeks, you return to Toothscaler Dental to receive a new set of aligners. At each appointment, Dr. Vu monitors your progress and ensures your aligners fit correctly.

To achieve the best possible results, it’s recommended that you wear your Invisalign aligners for between 20-22 hours every day. On average, Invisalign treatment takes between 12-18 months. However, you’ll start noticing improvements in your smile almost right away.

How do I clean my Invisalign aligners?

Caring for your Invisalign aligners is easy and hassle-free. Rinse them off in cool tap water before and after eating and brush them gently with your toothbrush at least once each day. For more thorough cleanings, ask Dr. Vu about the Invisalign Cleaning System.

Don’t let the appearance of your smile negatively impact your self-esteem. Schedule an Invisalign consultation at Toothscaler Dental by calling the office or clicking the online booking tool today.
